Switching from gas to induction
Induction cooking is fast, precise and easy to clean, and it is one of the most common upgrades we wire. Most induction cooktops need a dedicated high-current circuit, often 32 amps, run from the switchboard. Older switchboards may not have the room or capacity, and some homes also need their main supply checked. We assess all of that first and tell you exactly what is needed.
Gas appliances must be disconnected and capped by a licensed gasfitter, not an electrician. If you are swapping gas for induction, book the gasfitter for the same window, and we will handle the electrical side. Oven and cooktop repairs
When an oven or cooktop stops heating, trips the safety switch or loses power, the cause may be in the appliance or in the supply to it. A failed element often trips the safety switch as moisture gets into the cracked sheath. A burnt terminal at the connection point, a faulty isolator or a damaged cable can cut the power entirely. We test the circuit and the connection, replace failed elements and wiring where we can, and tell you plainly when an appliance fault needs the manufacturer’s service agent or a replacement instead.

How much does oven or cooktop installation cost?
The cost depends on whether there is a suitable circuit already in place. Replacing a like-for-like wall oven on an existing circuit is a short job. Installing an induction cooktop where none existed, or adding a circuit from a switchboard on the other side of the house, takes longer and may involve switchboard work. How long does it take?
Connecting a replacement oven or cooktop on a suitable existing circuit usually takes an hour or two. A new dedicated circuit for induction can take half a day or more depending on the distance to the switchboard and access under the floor or through the roof. We coordinate with your kitchen installer or builder if you are renovating.
Isolating switches and safety
Every hardwired oven and cooktop should have an accessible isolating switch, so the appliance can be switched off for cleaning, servicing or in an emergency without going to the switchboard. Many older kitchens either have no isolator or have one hidden inside a cabinet. When we install a new appliance, we make sure the isolator is in a sensible, reachable place and clearly labelled.
We also check the condition of the existing cable. Old cable that has been cooked behind a wall oven for years can become brittle, and connecting a new appliance to a damaged supply is asking for trouble.
