Electricians for Syndal
Syndal is not a suburb on the map but a neighbourhood that locals know well. It straddles Mount Waverley and Glen Waverley around the corner of High Street Road and Blackburn Road, in the City of Monash, and shares their 3149 and 3150 postcodes.
The name goes back to a 114 acre farm on High Street Road owned by Sir Redmond Barry, the judge who founded the State Library and the University of Melbourne. The Coleman family later bought the property, and when the Glen Waverley railway line opened in 1930 the new station at Blackburn Road and Coleman Parade was named Syndal after it.
The Syndal shopping strip
From the High Street Road intersection down to Syndal station on Coleman Parade runs the Syndal shopping centre, a strip known for long established specialist businesses: takeaway shops, a laundromat, a bridal store, a dry cleaner and many more. Older locals still remember when the corner had three petrol stations, three banks and a supermarket run by Brownlow Medallist John Schultz and his brother Robert.
Many of these shops trade from buildings that are fifty years old or more. We handle shop fit-outs, lighting upgrades, refrigeration and cool room circuits, signage power and emergency light testing, and we work around trading hours.
Homes around the station
Syndal’s streets are mostly post-war brick veneer and weatherboard family homes built after the railway arrived, with a growing number of townhouses and new double storey homes replacing them.
- Switchboard upgrades and safety switches
- Rewires of 1950s and 1960s homes
- Wiring for townhouse developments
- Split systems and ducted air conditioning circuits
- Solar, batteries and EV chargers
- Smoke alarm upgrades
Homes this age were built for a handful of appliances. Adding induction cooking, a heat pump or a car charger usually means checking the main supply and the switchboard first, and that is where we start.
Schools and families
Syndal was once home to five schools carrying its name, including Syndal High School and Syndal Technical School. Syndal South Primary School is still going, and the area remains popular with families who want to be close to Monash’s school zones and the train. We help families add power points, upgrade lighting, set up home offices and make older homes safer for young children.
Commuters and the car park
Syndal station gained a multi-deck car park with better lighting and CCTV in 2015, and it is a busy commuter stop on the Glen Waverley line. Plenty of locals now drive electric cars to the station and back, and a home charger is one of the most common jobs we do here.
Renovating a Syndal home
When walls and ceilings are open during a renovation, it is the cheapest time to replace old cable, add circuits and plan lighting properly. We work to your builder’s schedule and leave a record of what was installed and where, so future work is easier.
Close to our base
Syndal is a short drive south of our Box Hill base along Blackburn Road, so we can often attend the same day. Our 24/7 emergency service covers power loss, burning smells and dangerous faults at any hour.
Syndal electrician FAQs
Is Syndal a suburb?
Not officially. It is a neighbourhood spanning Mount Waverley and Glen Waverley, centred on High Street Road and Blackburn Road.
Where does the name Syndal come from?
From a farm on High Street Road once owned by Sir Redmond Barry. The railway station took the name in 1930.
Can you install an EV charger in a Syndal home?
Yes. We check the supply and switchboard, then install a charger that suits your car and your home.
Do you work on shops in the Syndal strip?
Yes. We handle fit-outs, lighting, refrigeration and repairs, and work around trading hours.
Should I upgrade my switchboard before renovating?
Often, yes. A renovation usually adds load, and an older board may not have room for new circuits or safety switches.
