Electricians for Chadstone homes
Most people think of the shopping centre when they hear Chadstone, but the suburb itself is a quiet residential area between Warrigal Road and Huntingdale Road, with Scotchmans Creek to the south and the Glen Waverley railway line to the north. The shopping centre and Holmesglen TAFE are now technically in Malvern East, after parts of the old Chadstone area were absorbed into that suburb. Chadstone today includes the area once known as Jordanville.
About 9,500 people live here, in the City of Monash. Local landmarks include the Waverley Basketball Centre, the Jordanville Community Centre and the Matthew Flinders Hotel. We come in from Box Hill, about eight kilometres away.
Post-war concrete houses
Chadstone has an unusual building history. Many of its post-war homes were built from prefabricated concrete produced at the site that is now Holmesglen Institute. They are typically small two or three bedroom houses on large blocks, and they bring particular challenges for electricians.
Solid concrete walls make it difficult to run new cable without surface conduit or careful routing through the roof and floor. Many of these homes also have their original switchboards and circuits. We plan rewires and upgrades to keep visible conduit to a minimum and make sure the result is neat and safe.
Concrete homes also tend to have their switchboards mounted on an external wall with limited space around them. When we upgrade, we often need a larger enclosure to fit modern breakers and RCDs, and we plan the new board so there is room for future circuits such as an EV charger or a battery.
- Rewiring of post-war concrete homes
- Switchboard upgrades with RCD protection
- Neat surface wiring where cable cannot be concealed
- Additional power points in kitchens and bedrooms
- Split system circuits
- Smoke alarm upgrades
Knock-down rebuilds on big blocks
Because the original houses are small and the blocks are large, many Chadstone homes are being demolished and replaced with bigger family homes or pairs of townhouses. We handle the full electrical scope for these projects, from disconnection and temporary supply to rough-in, fit-off and certification.
New homes here are often all electric from day one, with induction cooking, heat pump hot water, reverse cycle heating, solar and EV charging. We design the switchboard and supply to carry the full load.
For owners renovating rather than rebuilding, we can wire extensions and bring the original part of the house up to the same standard.
Businesses and the freeway corridor
Chadstone has businesses along Warrigal Road, Huntingdale Road and near the Monash Freeway, including trade services, clinics and hospitality. We provide fit-outs, three-phase work, lighting upgrades, emergency light testing and breakdown repairs.
For businesses, we schedule work around trading hours. For urgent faults, our 24/7 service responds quickly.
Along Scotchmans Creek
Homes along Scotchmans Creek and its trail enjoy the parkland but also deal with damp ground and big trees. Outdoor fittings, garden lights and buried cables to sheds are the usual sources of rain related tripping, and we find and fix them properly.
We also install garden and security lighting and weatherproof power for outdoor living areas.
Before you book in Chadstone
Is Chadstone Shopping Centre in Chadstone?
Technically no. The centre and Holmesglen TAFE are now in Malvern East, although they kept the Chadstone name. We service both suburbs.
Can you rewire a concrete post-war house?
Yes. We plan the routes carefully, using the roof and floor where possible and neat surface conduit where needed.
Do you work on knock-down rebuilds?
Yes. We handle the full electrical scope from disconnection to certification.
Will I see conduit on my walls after a rewire?
We keep it to a minimum. Most cable can run through the roof and floor. Where concrete walls leave no alternative, we use slim, neat conduit painted to match.
