Electricians for Clarinda
Clarinda has had three names. It was first known as Bald Hills, but so many places shared that name that it became Bayview, and later Clarinda. The land was once coastal heathland, part of a 40,000 acre squatting run taken up by John O’Shannessy in the early 1840s and passed to John and Richard King in 1846. In the early 1900s Clarinda Road was little more than a gravel track, formed with the help of ratepayers who did some of the work themselves.
The post office opened in 1911, closed in 1971 and reopened in 1984 as the suburb filled with homes. Today Clarinda is a multicultural suburb of about 7,400 people in the City of Kingston, with communities from the Philippines, India, Greece, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. We cover it from Box Hill, roughly fourteen kilometres down the road.
Clarinda is well placed for families, with parks, primary schools and easy access to Southland, the Monash University Clayton campus and the industrial employment areas of Kingston and Monash. Many residents have been here since the suburb was built, and many newer families have joined them.
Family homes from the 1960s to the 1980s
Most Clarinda homes were built between the 1960s and the 1980s, typically brick family houses on good sized blocks. Many now house extended families, with grandparents, parents and children under one roof, and that puts extra demand on electrical systems that were designed for smaller households.
Extended families also tend to run more appliances at once, from second fridges and freezers to extra air conditioners in bedrooms. A switchboard upgrade with room for extra circuits, combined with a check of the supply, keeps everything running smoothly without the breaker tripping at the busiest times of day.
- Switchboard upgrades with an RCD on every circuit
- Extra circuits for busy kitchens and laundries
- Split system circuits for bedrooms and living areas
- Granny flat and self-contained area wiring
- LED lighting upgrades
- EV charger installation
Large family kitchens often run a rice cooker, an air fryer, a microwave and a kettle at once on a single old circuit. We add dedicated circuits so the breaker stops tripping at dinner time.
The sandbelt and outdoor electrics
Clarinda sits in Melbourne’s sandbelt, home to some of the country’s best known golf courses and former market gardens. Sandy soil drains well but can shift, and older buried cables to sheds and garages can be damaged over time. We replace damaged cable with modern cable in conduit and fix outdoor fittings properly.
We also install garden and security lighting, weatherproof power for outdoor kitchens and circuits for sheds and workshops.
Local businesses and industry
Clarinda and the surrounding streets have local shops, clinics and light industrial businesses. We provide fit-outs, three-phase work, lighting upgrades, refrigeration and kitchen circuits, emergency light testing and fast breakdown repairs.
For businesses, we schedule work outside trading or production hours wherever possible.
Solar and energy savings
With good roof space and plenty of sun, Clarinda homes are well suited to solar, and many families are adding batteries to cut their bills further. We check what your supply and board can carry, then plan and wire each upgrade so the systems work as one.
You get a written, fixed price before any work begins, and a tidy site when we leave.
