Electricians for Gardenvale
Gardenvale is one of Melbourne’s smallest suburbs, home to about 1,000 people between the Nepean Highway, Elster Avenue, Kooyong Road and North Road. Before 1908 the land was a paddock owned by the Lemprière family, a prominent Caulfield family, and it was used as a polo ground. The railway station opened in 1907 as Garden Vale, perhaps named after the market gardens nearby, and the suburb name was finally gazetted in 1966.
The early development was controversial. Much of the land was too wet to build on without proper drainage, and the argument over who should pay for it involved neighbouring estates, the council and Victorian Railways. The Elster Creek still runs through the suburb before entering the Elwood Canal. We come in from Box Hill, about fourteen kilometres away.
Homes on the old polo ground
Gardenvale’s homes were mostly built from the 1910s onwards, with Edwardian and interwar houses, Californian bungalows and later flats and townhouses. Many older homes have been renovated but may still have original or partly updated wiring and old switchboards.
Some of the interwar houses in Gardenvale have been converted into flats or have granny flats at the rear, often wired from the main house. We check these arrangements carefully and give each dwelling its own protected circuits.
- Testing and rewiring of Edwardian and interwar homes
- Switchboard upgrades
- Light fittings and switches in keeping with the house
- Circuits for rear extensions and kitchens
- Timers and smart controls for lights and appliances
- Two-yearly rental safety checks for flats
We test and map the installation first and plan the work to protect original plaster, leadlight and timber floors.
Low lying ground and outdoor electrics
The drainage debates of the early 1900s are a reminder that Gardenvale sits on low lying ground near the Elster Creek. Damp soil can be hard on buried cables and outdoor fittings, and older garden wiring is a common reason for safety switches tripping in wet weather.
We find and fix outdoor faults properly, replace old buried cable with modern cable in conduit and install weatherproof outdoor power and lighting for gardens and decks.
Gardenvale Road shops and Star of the Sea
The strip shopping centre on Gardenvale Road serves the local community with cafes and services, and Star of the Sea College, a Catholic girls’ school, is one of the suburb’s best known institutions. We provide lighting, refrigeration and kitchen circuits, fault repairs and emergency light testing for local businesses.
For schools and community buildings, we carry out lighting, power and safety work scheduled around their timetables.
Close to the bay and the city
Gardenvale’s location, between Brighton, Elsternwick and Caulfield South, with a station on the Sandringham line, makes it popular with families and professionals. Many households are renovating, adding solar and planning for electric cars, and we plan these upgrades so the switchboard and supply are ready.
Our emergency electricians answer the phone 24 hours a day.
Every job is carried out under our Victorian contractor licence.
