Electricians for Fairfield
Fairfield takes its name from Fairfield Park, an estate subdivided by land speculator Charles Henry James, reportedly named after a place in Derbyshire. The post office opened in 1887, and the three storey Grandview Hotel, completed in 1888, has a long history as a live music venue. In 1962 Fairfield and Alphington moved from the City of Heidelberg to the City of Northcote, which became part of Darebin in 1994.
Fairfield is bounded by Grange Road, the Yarra, Darebin Road and Northcote, with a small part in the City of Yarra. Station Street is its village heart, with almost 90 businesses including cafes, restaurants and specialty food stores, and the quirky six metre animatronic Fairfield Industrial Dog stands beside the station. About 6,500 people live here. From our workshop in Box Hill it is roughly ten kilometres.
Fairfield has a relaxed, village feel. On weekends Station Street is busy with families, cyclists heading to the river trails and locals picking up coffee and bread, and the Fairfield Park boathouse is a favourite spot on the Yarra.
Period homes and family renovations
Fairfield’s streets are mostly residential, with Victorian and Edwardian homes, interwar bungalows and post-war houses built by the suburb’s Greek and Italian families. Many are being renovated or extended, and older wiring often needs attention.
Homes built by Greek and Italian families in the post-war decades often have big garages, cellars and backyard kitchens wired over many years. We check these carefully and make them safe, keeping the practical features families rely on.
- Testing and rewiring of period homes
- Switchboard upgrades
- Rear extension and kitchen circuits
- Outdoor kitchens, garages and workshops made safe
- Split system circuits
- Interconnected smoke alarms
We test and map before recommending work, and plan rewires to protect original plaster, fireplaces and floors.
Station Street businesses
Station Street’s cafes, restaurants, delis and wine stores rely on refrigeration, commercial kitchens and lighting. We provide fit-outs, kitchen and cool room circuits, lighting upgrades, emergency light testing and fault repairs, scheduled around trading hours.
For venues like the Grandview and other hospitality businesses, we handle stage and lighting power and after-hours repairs through our 24/7 line.
Light industry and workshops
Fairfield’s small light industrial pocket in the north-east holds workshops, studios and trade businesses that need three-phase supply, machine connections and good lighting. We provide installation, maintenance and breakdown repairs, and we can schedule work around your production.
Many homes also have garages used as workshops, and we install proper circuits and sub-boards so tools can run safely.
Beside the Yarra
Fairfield Park, the boathouse and the Yarra trail are local favourites. Homes near the river enjoy the green outlook but can have damp subfloors and outdoor wiring that fails in wet weather. We find and fix outdoor faults and install garden lighting and power rated for the conditions.
You get a written, fixed price before any work begins, and a tidy site when we leave.
Some Fairfield homes also back onto the parklands and have long gardens with old sheds and studios. Old buried cable to these outbuildings is a common cause of tripping, and we replace it properly in conduit.
