Electricians for Hampton
Hampton began as market gardens in the 1840s and 1850s, supplying fruit and vegetables to Melbourne. By the 1850s day trippers were coming to its beaches, especially Picnic Point, and when the railway reached Sandringham in 1887 the local station was named Retreat, after the Retreat Hotel on the point. Several landmarks, including the beach, had already been named after market gardener Dyas Hampton, and wealthy buyers preferred the more regal sounding name, so the station was renamed Hampton.
Today Hampton is a relaxed, affluent bayside suburb of about 13,500 people between Brighton and Sandringham. Hampton Street is its heart, with more than 50 cafes and restaurants and plenty of fashion boutiques, and the beach and Sandringham line are a short walk from most homes. We work across Bayside regularly, and summer is our busiest season here.
Bayside homes and rebuilds
Hampton’s housing includes interwar homes and bungalows from the 1930s subdivision of the market gardens, war service homes built for returned soldiers after the First World War, and a large number of contemporary rebuilds. New homes here often include pools, outdoor kitchens, home theatres, smart lighting and EV charging.
- Full electrical design and fit-out for new homes
- Rewiring and switchboard upgrades for older homes
- Pool, spa and outdoor kitchen circuits
- Architectural, garden and pool lighting
- Smart home control and data cabling
- EV chargers and solar with batteries
For new builds, we work with owners, architects and builders from the start, so every switch, sensor and data point is in the right place before the walls go up.
Summer by the bay
Summer in Hampton is spent outdoors, on the beach, around the pool and on the deck. Well designed outdoor lighting, reliable pool equipment circuits and weatherproof power for heaters, barbecues and outdoor kitchens make the most of long evenings.
Salt air is the catch. Fittings near the water corrode quickly, and failing outdoor equipment is a common cause of tripping safety switches. We use corrosion resistant, properly rated fittings and replace tired ones before summer arrives.
Hampton Street businesses
Hampton Street’s cafes, restaurants, boutiques, salons and professional offices rely on dependable power and good lighting. We provide fit-outs, commercial kitchen and refrigeration circuits, display lighting, emergency light testing and fast breakdown repairs, scheduled outside trading hours.
On busy summer weekends, a fault can cost a cafe a day’s trade. Our 24/7 emergency line is always open.
Older homes on Hampton’s side streets
Between the rebuilds, Hampton still has plenty of Californian bungalows, weatherboards and brick veneer homes from the 1920s to the 1960s. Many still have ceramic fuses, old rubber or early plastic cable and too few power points for modern kitchens and home offices.
We test the installation, tell you honestly what needs replacing now and what can wait, and upgrade in stages if that suits your budget. Safety switches on every circuit are the first priority.
Clubs and community
The Hampton Rovers, one of the bigger amateur football clubs around, the Hampton Cricket Club and the local sailing and lifesaving clubs keep the suburb busy year round. We carry out pavilion lighting, power and safety work for clubs and community facilities.
No hourly surprises: we quote a fixed price in writing first.
Questions Hampton locals ask us
How did Hampton get its name?
From market gardener Dyas Hampton. The station was first called Retreat, after the Retreat Hotel, but the Hampton name was preferred and adopted.
Can you wire a pool and outdoor kitchen?
Yes. We install pool equipment circuits, bonding, lighting and weatherproof outdoor kitchen power.
Do you work with builders on new homes?
Yes. We handle everything from rough-in to final certification.
Do I need a full rewire in an older Hampton home?
Not always. We test the wiring and replace what is unsafe, often starting with the switchboard and safety switches.
